Alumni Profiles

Students in the MS-PSD have taken many paths, both within the program and afterwards. To help you think about how the MS-PSD could fit into your plans, we've shared the stories of some of our program Alumni on this page.

Prateek Bajaj (SM '14)

Prateek wanted to begin a career in theoretical physics, and for that he needed to be in a strong PhD program.  The problem was that none of the offers from his first round of applications seemed to be the right fit for his plans.  “Then this one application to Chicago came in, and that changed everything—it was like a totally different game.”  Read More

Victoria Fischer (Sm '14)

Determined to follow in the footsteps of her grandfather, a physician and soldier, Victoria developed her scientific expertise in the MS-PSD proram before attending medical school. Now she's a second year at Georgetown Medical School and a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Read More

Pablo lemos portela (SM '15)

Radha Ramachandran (SM ’09)

Radha hadn’t yet finished her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, but she already knew she was ready for a change in perspective. Read More

Andrew Romero-Wolf (SM '05)

As a principal investigator at Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), he studies radio detection of ultra-high-energy particles for NASA. But when he graduated with his bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago a little more than a decade ago, Romero-Wolf, AB’02, SM’05, wasn’t convinced that he would continue in scientific research. That was before Antarctica. Read More
