Student Life

Student Life

MS-PSD students come from a wide range of academic backgrounds, but also cultural and social backgrounds and we take the opportunity to get together regularly to share ideas and information, often over dinner. An extracurricular life is crucial to productive graduate study and we encourage you to take advantage of social programs (and their accompanying free food) as often as you can.

MS-PSD EVENTS

During Orientation week, we hold a group social – in 2013 we took a pizza tour of Chicago, learning about city history while sampling a definitive Chicago food.  Once a quarter, we gather together for a cohort dinner at a Chicago restaurant. Throughout the quarter, we also host informal lunch breaks and coffee breaks, often with topics to discuss (such as applying to PhD programs).

PSD EVENTS

The PSD Social Committee sponsors a weekly Happy Hour (beer, pizza, and pop) each Friday during the autumn, winter, and spring quarters at 5:30 p.m. in the GCIS 3rd floor atrium. They also organize events which range from theater outings to sporting events to game nights.

UNIVERSITY EVENTS

Every day, the University of Chicago hosts dozens of events with a wide variety in that programming; there are plenty of ways to participate and learn, no matter your interests. We especially recommend students take advantage of programming from UChicago GRAD , which offers events and opportunities specifically aimed at a grad student audience. The best way to stay in touch with these events is to maintain your subscription to the Grad Guide Weekly.
